Confidentiality
Everything discussed during therapy sessions, or shared through chat, email, forms, or any other communication with Being Balanced, will be treated as confidential.
Your personal information and the contents of your sessions with our therapists will not be shared with anyone without your written consent, except in the specific situations listed below.
Limits to Confidentiality
Confidentiality may need to be broken in the following circumstances:
a) If there is a serious and imminent risk of harm to yourself.
b) If there is a clear and serious threat of harm to another person.
c) If there is reason to suspect ongoing abuse, neglect, or exploitation of a child, elderly person, or vulnerable adult.
d) If disclosure is required by a valid court order, legal process, or applicable law.
e) If emergency intervention is necessary to protect life, safety, or wellbeing.
In such situations, only the minimum necessary information will be shared, and wherever possible, we will discuss this with you before taking any action.
To ensure that you receive ethical and effective support, your therapist may consult with a psychiatrist, clinical supervisor, or peer consultation group. These consultations are conducted for professional guidance and quality of care. During such consultations, your full name and specific identifying details, such as your location, workplace, contact details, or other information that could reasonably identify you, will not be disclosed unless necessary for your safety or required by law.
Safety Planning
If there are concerns related to self-harm, suicidal thoughts, or serious risk to your safety, we may work with you to create a Safety Plan.
This plan may include identifying warning signs, coping strategies, supportive people, emergency contacts, crisis helplines, medical professionals, or other emergency services that may need to be contacted if your safety is at risk.
Wherever possible, we will seek your consent before contacting anyone. However, if there is an immediate risk to your life or safety, we may contact your emergency contact, without prior consent, in order to protect you from serious harm.
